"My land comes from the sea" (Verdon's motto)

Le Verdon sur Mer, located at the extremity of the Médoc, 100 km from the city of Bordeaux, is a village with a marked maritime vocation! It has three supervised beaches, 3 lighthouses (the Saint Nicolas lighthouse, the Grave lighthouse, and the oldest and most famous lighthouse in France: the Cordouan lighthouse on its rocky islet) as well as 4 harbors: the Port Bloc, the commercial harbor, the Old Port with oysters, and the new 800-berth Port Médoc marina.

The estuary of the Gironde

The discovery of the Verdon starts most often with the Pointe de Grave which offers a view on the mouth of the largest estuary in Europe. This is a unique place where the ocean and the waters of the Gironde meet and mingle in an immense space facing the Charente coast.

The attentive visitor soon discovers that the Verdon is also home to other treasures: vast beaches on the Atlantic coast and on the Gironde Estuary, forests and marshes, bicycle paths and hiking trails, all of which are places to rest, stroll or go on intrepid adventures.

The beaches of Verdon sur Mer

The municipality of Le Verdon sur Mer is classified since 2018 "pavillon bleu". This label is awarded to coastal municipalities that meet the following three criteria: environmental education, waste management as well as water management.
In addition, the quality of the beaches of the labeled municipalities is regularly analyzed; the results of these analyses are displayed on the beaches.
Finally, the general environment is studied. For example, the accessibility of beaches for people with reduced mobility.
