Proudly awarded the “Blue Flag”, our beaches welcome you for safe walks and swimming! You can also go cycling along the seafront. Want to discover our little corner of paradise in the Médoc? Here are a few activities to keep your holiday busy near Bordeaux.
"MY LAND COMES FROM THE SEA" – VERDUN'S MOTTO
Le Verdon-sur-Mer, located on the Pointe du Médoc, 100 km from Bordeaux, is a village with a marked maritime vocation! It has three supervised beaches, 3 lighthouses (the Saint Nicolas Lighthouse, the Grave Lighthouse, and the oldest and most famous lighthouse in France: the Cordouan Lighthouse on its rocky islet). It also boasts 4 harbours: the Port Bloc, the commercial harbour, the Vieux Port aux Huitres and the new 800-berth Port Médoc marina.
THE GIRONDE ESTUARY
Discovering Le Verdon-sur-Mer usually begins at the Pointe de Grave, which offers a view of the mouth of Europe’s largest estuary. An unmissable and unique place, where the ocean and the waters of the Gironde meet and mingle in an immense space facing the Charente coastline.
Attentive visitors will soon discover that Le Verdon is also home to other treasures: vast beaches on the Atlantic coast and on the Gironde estuary, forests and marshes, cycle paths and footpaths all provide places to rest, stroll or embark on intrepid adventures.
THE BEACHES OF LE VERDON-SUR-MER
The commune of Le Verdon-sur-Mer has been classified as a “Blue Flag” since 2018. This label is awarded to coastal communities that meet the following three criteria: environmental education, waste management and water management.
What’s more, the quality of the beaches in labelled communes is regularly analysed; the results of these analyses are also displayed on the beaches. Finally, the general environment is studied. Example: accessibility of beaches for people with reduced mobility.
