The Médoc, a land of vineyards and pine trees, takes shape between ocean and estuary. It’s a great place to stroll through its vast pine forests or along its prestigious “Wine Route”. Punctuated by family-friendly seaside resorts (Soulac-sur-Mer, Montalivet, Lacanau, Hourtin, Carcans…), the Atlantic Ocean runs for kilometres of uninterrupted beach. Along the Gironde estuary, the Médoc becomes more picturesque. Inland, it boasts a rich cultural heritage, a hinterland of canals, vineyards with exceptional appellations (Pauillac, Margaux, Saint-Estèphe, Saint-Julien…) and polders. VISIT LE VERDON-SUR-MER, A SMALL VILLAGE IN THE HEART OF THE MÉDOC
Le Verdon-sur-Mer is the perfect place for a camping holiday, where the ocean and nature blend harmoniously. Take advantage of the vast sandy beaches for swimming, surfing or simply relaxing in the sun. Cycle through pine forests or along the coast to the famous Grave lighthouse, offering magnificent views over the Gironde estuary.
SPORTING ACTIVITIES AROUND LE VERDON-SUR-MER
Le Verdon-sur-Mer, at the northern end of the Médoc peninsula, is perfect for lovers of water sports and land sports. Between the Gironde estuary and the Atlantic Ocean, you can surf, kitesurf, paddle, kayak and fish.
For thrills, opt for paintball, tree climbing, horse riding or even parachute jumping. More curious guests can admire the region from a hot-air balloon or microlight. Discover the region’s must-see attractions with a visit to the iconic lighthouses: the majestic Cordouan Lighthouse, the Richard Lighthouse and the Pointe de Grave Lighthouse, each offering spectacular views and an insight into maritime history. In Soulac-sur-Mer, the Basilique Notre-Dame de la Fin des Terres, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is a must-see.
Relax at Port Médoc or Vieux Port aux Huîtres for fresh seafood. Fans of fine wines can explore the wine route and visit prestigious estates such as Château Margaux or Château Lafite or Mouton-Rothschild.
Take the Soulac tourist train to the Pointe de Grave, discover the Arros battery and the marshes, or relax on Hourtin-Carcans Lake. Wander through the village of Soulac-sur-Mer, admire its ancient villas, and don’t miss the local markets, particularly the one in Montalivet.
